Retain Employees Through the Language of Appreciation: Quality Time

Quality time with your team members is an excellent motivator and a fantastic way to show your appreciation.

As a leader, you are responsible for the people in your organization to drive results. That means part of your responsibility is to fill your team’s internal fuel tank. How you refuel your employees is through appreciation.

As noted in “The Languages of Appreciation in the Workplace,” team members who thrive on time spent with their supervisor feel connected and appreciated. The reason is that they feel you find them interesting.

Quality Time

Focused attention or working collaboratively on a project is considered quality time in the workplace.

To show your appreciation, active listening is crucial.

Allow your coworker the space to share their thoughts and observations. Ask them questions and get their input.

Your level of interest in engagement displayed will fuel the fire and inspire your people to accomplish results.

Your Turn: Try This in Your Office

I encourage you to pause and invest the needed time with your employees.

Stop by certain team members’ workspace for a chat. Offer to take them out to lunch. Have some empathetic dialogue with them. They love to share experiences together.

Take note of who is on your team that has more energy after you spend quality time together. Then work on repeating the behavior with that person.
