Years ago, when my mentor challenged me by asking if I’ve ever done a year-end review, I froze! My mentor wasn’t looking for my New Year’s resolutions, but instead an actionable strategic plan to move toward my goals.
I didn’t know people did this. I definitely didn’t know where to start.
My mentor gave me an elaborate review and strategic planning system. I am still using some variation to this day.
An elaborate system can be overwhelming if you’ve never done the work along the way for a proper year-end review. To cut through the overwhelm, start my looking inward and asking questions of yourself and your work performance.
These are the three most important questions to answer:
What should I do less of?
What should I do more of?
Who can help get me where I’m going?
Carefully answering these questions will allow you to see what areas of your life need more fuel to get you where you want to be.
Even if you’re doing well, don’t settle. If you stopped growing, you’ve chosen where you’re going to level off. The world needs you better next year than you are this year.
