Planned Obsolescence

Where are you

Choosing to level off?

How long will it take for your MBA to be obsolete?  At the rate in which society is moving studies show that the content learned in an MBA program will be obsolete within five years of graduation. According to a recent survey conducted by Prudential less than half of American employees believe they have the skills they need to compete in ten years.

This means you need a growth plan.  If you want to be relevant in the marketplace you need to continue to grow your skills, knowledge and experience.  From the time you are born taking you all the way through school someone was architecting a plan for you to grow and gain the skills necessary to get to the next level of your life. However, as an adult, if you are not purposely architecting your own life you may not like where you end up.  If you are not actively and intentionally growing now you have chosen where you are going to level off.

The crazy thing is, at the pace in which our world is moving you may not even realize you have leveled off until it’s too late.  Here is a little quiz you can take to see if you are growing or leveling off.

You are leveling off if:

1.  You are always the smartest person in the room

2.  You are not challenged

3.  Your focus is no longer forward, it’s preservation

4.  You are never or rarely out of your comfort zone

5.  Failure is your enemy

6.  You no longer wake up excited for the day

7.  People around you are not growing

8.  You are not modeling or expecting growth

9.  You do not desire change

10.  The atmosphere around you is consistently negative

If five or more of these statements are true about you, you are planning your own obsolescence.  Take a look around you.  Is this where you want to peak?
