Three Strategies to Beat Pandemic Mental Fatigue

Three Strategies to Beat Pandemic Mental Fatigue

Under normal circumstances, you have a busy life and daily stresses to manage. But 2020 has really taken its toll when it comes to navigating life’s obstacles. Our minds are on overtime trying to resolve new problems that seemingly thrown at us all at once.

Have you found yourself tired, sore, worn out, and perhaps moody? That’s because you’ve been thrown into 2020’s exercise gym running on that treadmill non-stop placing your mental muscles to the outer limits. Perhaps you’re experiencing decision fatigue, pivot fatigue or Zoom fatigue. If you’re experiencing it, most likely your team is too.

Of course, you know that your physical muscles need to recuperate between workouts. Trained athletes know their limits and know when they must slow down and stop so they can go the distance.

What about your mental muscles?

You can only go for so long exercising your mental and emotional muscles before you completely fatigue out.

Pressures both personally and professionally have taken its toll on many.

We can only go so long exercising our mental and emotional muscles before we fatigue out. In order to continue performing at a high level, you should have a strategic rest. Being purposeful to implement a strategy to decompress, unwind, and unpack what has been happening will give you the mental break you need to go the distance.

Recognize that your team is most likely experiencing the same mental fatigue as you are. Give them grace and encourage them to implement their own strategic rest plan.

Try these three strategies to beat mental fatigue.

  • Schedule it
Make an appointment with yourself. Block the time on your calendar and make it a priority to not miss. Even a 10-15-minute mental break has great benefits.

  • Turn off digital
Don’t scroll through social, be distracted by emails, or internet surf. Turn off your notifications so that you won’t get sucked back onto the mental treadmill.

  • Seclude yourself
Get away from the bustle of the day and try to find a peaceful place to give your mind a rest. At the office, your peaceful place could be in a conference room, closing the door of your office, your car, or anywhere you can remove yourself from the day’s stress and mentally recharge, even if it’s for a few moments.
