What is clogging your sink?

The law of diminishing intent

It’s amazing how life doesn’t stop just because we have things to do. I’ve had a slow drain in my house that has continued to get worse for months. I tried several of the home remedies I knew of to fix the issue but apparently it was a problem deeper in the pipes and my solutions were just placating the issue. Here I am several months later still dealing with the issue that could have been easily resolved by a professional.

I completely changed my morning routine to go around my slow drain problem. It took up mental space in my head more times than I can count as I was thinking through what else I could do besides call a professional. I even spent valuable time thinking about calling a professional but not actually doing it.

The more time that went by from when I noticed the problem the more I was willing to work around it and not deal with it. John Maxwell would call this the law of diminishing intent. Once I realized I did not have the expertise to be able to fix this problem, I knew I was going to call a plumber. I had made the decision months ago. I even knew who I was going to call. I have some wonderful friends that own a plumbing business and they have been servicing my home for years. But the longer I waited before making the call the less likely it would be that I would do it before a more serious problem occurred. The law of diminishing intent.

Luckily I finally recognized my behavior and decided to do something about it. As of this afternoon, I have clear pipes and smooth running drains! I feel like I have a whole new lease on life now that I’m not having to work around the problem drain. Until I dealt with the issue I had no idea how much of toll it was actually taking.

My question for you today is what is your slow drain? What issue or problem have you been avoiding and working around that just needs to be dealt with?

Take it from me, you will feel so much better once it’s done.
