Why Leadership Must Step in for Organizational Growth

Today’s culture of “everyone is the same,” isn’t the best way to lead. It’s definitely how managers manage, though.

Managers focus on fairness, sameness, treating everyone the exact same, expecting everyone to produce the exact same output.

Managers focus on planning, organizing, administering, controlling, and enforcing. Those activities are vital in maintaining the operations of your business.

The problem with this line of thinking when considering the growth of your organization is:

Not everyone has the same talents, drive, or abilities.

Would you want to be treated the same as someone half your age with half your experience? Would it offend you if your experience in your position was overlooked and you were viewed in the same frame as someone who became your co-worker today?

When an organization’s vision is seeking growth, innovation, and greater impact in their community, more leaders within the team should be developed.

Leaders focus on direction, vision, motivating, and inspiring others.  They see team members as unique individuals.  They draw out their team’s special talents, strengths, and abilities.

Leaders aren’t solely responsible for achieving the organization’s vision. To be a leader, they recognize they are responsible for the people who are responsible for the results.

It takes a leader to recognize each person’s natural gifts, capabilities, and how to inspire them to even greater growth.

The task of the leader is to get their people from where they are to where they have not been.

To truly make an impact in your organization, don’t “manage” your team. Lead them.

It’s not in your best interest to put a highly creative person in the position of squashing their creativity and limiting their performance output. To retain them and have higher performance, of course, you’d want them to shine and excel with their natural talents and abilities.
